A revolutionary action has occurred in Scientology within the last month. Those responsible for maintaining the integrity of the materials of Scientology (that’s the Religious Technology Center, to whom L. Ron Hubbard left the rights to all the materials he developed over his long and prodigious life) recently completed a major project where they went back to the original handwritten or tape recorded transcripts of the “basic books” — such as Dianetics, the Modern Science of Mental Health, and revised and reissued all the basic books based on things that they found had been transcribed incorrectly or left out or added incorrectly.
This is a big deal for Scientologists, as the basic books (there are about 20 of them) contain most of the information about the religion of Scientology. So the re-issued books were made available, along with extension courses for each of them, and most Scientologists are busily studying these basic books at home or in course rooms in the various Scientology churches around the world.
At the same time they re-issued (on CD) two of my all-time favorite tape lectures made by L. Ron Hubbard, which cover some of those same basics. That would be the Phoenix Lectures (made in 1952 in Phoenix, Arizona, where L. Ron Hubbard first figured out what makes the human spirit tick) and the Philadelphia Doctorate Lectures (made in late 1952 and early 1953 in Philly).
I can’t wait to start the first extension course. I’ll be re-studying the revised and reissued Dianetics book. Just received my extension course pack in the mail, and I’m raring to go! I’ll try to post to this blog with updates on my progress.
Hi JM,
do you mind making a comment, about Creation of Human Ability, the new revised Creation of Human Ability. My curiosity is whether the “Grand Tour” process is still included in the new Hubbard revised book or not. I hope the Grand Tour is still described.
I was strongly drawn into Scientology by thinking that Scientology practitioners were “auditing” one another and sending one another off to explore the solar system and beyond, while doing this Grand Tour Hubbard process from Creation of Human Ability book, and I just want to be sure that this Grand Tour is STILL today in the newly revised book, awaiting the new inquiring minds who read Creation of Human Ability.
Let me know, as I have NOT decided myself to buy this particular revised book.
I do hope that the Grand Tour is in the newly revised book and that it is essentially the same, and not revised.
Hi, Chuck –
Yes, the Grand Tour is still included in this book. Nothing that was written by L. Ron Hubbard was taken out of any of the books by anyone, but some things that had been omitted or altered were fixed.
So, yes, the Grand Tour is on page 65 of the new Creation of Human Ability book.
I’m not sure what the proper place for that particular process is in one’s progress in Scientology — but it is a very interesting read.
Any church or mission of Scientology will have the new books on hand. There’s even an extension course for the Creation of Human Ability book.
I’m doing the extension course for the Dianetics book myself now – learning a lot as it has been about 30 years since I read it cover to cover. It was an amazing book when I read it then and I’m still fascinated with the workable technology that Hubbard developed.
Good luck!
I can’t wait to get the new CDs. It’s always interesting and fun to hear LRH discussing what he has discovered. I am studying the Dissemination & Help lectures at the moment. Check my Youtube page for some LRH quotes and other things Scientology related.
Hey! Great blog and good post! I’m at the end of the Thought, Emotion & Effort lectures that follow the Advanced Procedure & Axioms book. The continuity of this stuff is fantastic. In these lectures, LRH refers to Self Analysis, AP&A & Handbook for Preclears as manuals and such which he intended to be in use. Finally, they ARE going into use!
Well, it’s been nearly six years since the Basics were revised and reissued. In that time, Marie and I have done the extension courses for all the books, and listened to the lectures that accompanied each book.
I’ve also completed the extension courses for the 1st international and the 1st American Advanced Clinical Courses — what a hoot those were! Obviously the ACCs were a lot more intimate than the congresses. Listening to them, I felt like Ron was leaning on a desk about 10 feet away, lecturing a mile-a-minute, and covering awesome material.
I am going back through the lectures again, this time doing the extension courses for them.
It’s hard to describe the wins I’m having from these — I feel bigger and more causative.
I’m more grounded.
