Wow – was sitting in the hot tub about 5 minutes ago in the dark, and saw a star explode almost directly overhead. One second the star was there, then it flashed very bright and was gone. No trail, no traces left, and it was definitely not a meteor.
How weird is that!
Time was approximately 11:34 PM PST.
My gal was with me and saw it too – it was bright enough she saw it without her glasses — and that’s saying something.
That’s funny ’cause i just saw a supernova……………..at 6 am ish, november 18, 2009. In sudbury, ontario, canada. COOL SHIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wow, that’s incredible! Now I’m wondering if I ever say one of these phenomena. How cool that you knew exactly what you were looking at!!
I think I just saw a go supernova. I was outside looking at Orion and saw an unfamiliar star. It got bright and gradually dimmed to the point that it was not visible anymore. The fact that I had never seen the star before indicates that it might have been quite far away and not normally visible to the naked eye.
When stars explode, don’t they give off a nebula, which still glows but is now dim? I saw a star shining real bright and then all of a sudden I saw sort of a flash and then the star became extremely dim and small.
I just happened to be looking north at about 10:45 cst, low enough in the sky where stars are not visible due to the city glow, appeared this what seemed to be a decent sized somewhat red looking star. It then very quickly doubled in size while turning a very bright white. It then faded out until you couldn’t see anything. From what I saw, this lasted maybe 3-4 seconds.
