Antidepressants Hardly Help according to an article in Time Magazine. I rarely trust any information provided by what is usually the central mouthpiece for Big Pharma, and the trumpet of the AMA and APA, but in this case they seem to have let some actual science slip through in their reporting. Prozac, Effexor, Serzone, Paxil and Seroxat, the SSRI drugs, are basically about as effective as a placebo sugar pill for all except the most severely depressed. So why have 50 million people been taking these drugs worldwide? Because they drug companies only provide the POSITIVE results of their drug trials to the FDA when seeking approval. When the results of ALL the clinical trials are in, it’s pretty clear that for most people taking these drugs, they are ineffective. This news is not news to CCHR.
When you have a flawed theory like “imbalanced brain chemistry” (for which there are no scientific lab tests at all!) to explain what are usually either physical problems impacting the spirit of a person, or simple hormonal changes (OF COURSE being a teenager is depressing – it has been since the dawn of man!) it’s not surprising that the bogus pseudo-science behind SSRIs is finally being exposed by researchers who AREN’T in the pocket of Big Pharma.
The Big Pharma spin machine is in full fear now, trotting out lies about how many people they’ve helped. Yeah – about as many as placebos would have helped, but at $50/bottle, resulting in billions of dollars of profits to them. It’s sickening and entirely criminal, because THEY KNOW what they’re doing. Why else would they be paying kickbacks to physicians and psychs to get them to presecribe them? The airwaves and media are saturated with ads for these drugs.
The psychs who prescribe these drugs should be put in jail when their patients commit crimes while on them or coming off of them, as the most recent school shooter in Illinois was trying to do when, according to his girlfriend, he was trying to come off one of these drugs. The drugs themselves can make people suicidal and homicidal. Talk about insane!
It’s a flippin’ miracle. Time magazine publishing something that is not in the best interests of its advertisers? What is the world coming to?
This new study is being reported all over the place: Prozac Doesn’t Work.
Perhaps soon these dangerous, mind-destroying drugs will be banned. I can’t wait to see the court cases against the pharmaceutical companies.
